Radio LRdR un bol d'air
UNE are an electronic duo consisting of broadcaster, writer and musician Mark Radcliffe and dj, re-mixer and techno boffin Paul S Langley. The pair met in their home town of Knutsford in Cheshire and bonded over a shared love of Manchester City, dogs, Kraftwerk and New Order. Radcliffe has been working in broadcasting since 1979 at Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio and has since worked for BBC Radio 1,2,3,4,5 and 6music. He is the author of five best-selling books about music although his latest publication is a record of his time spent in Rome with his wife and dog and is called ‘Et tu, cavapoo’? (little,Brown Aug 14th) Langley was a regular habitue of the famed dj booth at the Hacienda and was signed to Factory offshoot Rob’s Records masterminded by Joy Division and New Order guiding light Rob Gretton. UNE have released four previous albums: ‘Lost’, ‘Deux’, ‘Spomenik’ and ‘Whirl’. This LP is called ‘Last’ but that doesn’t mean it is necessarily their final word. Rather the over- arching concept is inspired by some famous ‘lasts’ including the concluding literary and dramatic works of Dickens and Shakespeare, Van Gogh’s last painting, the doomed voyage that marked the end of the airship Hindenburg and Da Vinci’s depiction of ‘The Last Supper’. Also available through Townsend music are gatefold vinyl editions of ‘Deux’ and CD’s of the collection ‘Ace’ which is a compilation of tracks from their first three albums.
