Jonny Blade Bio:
A northern boy in every sense. Born in Sunderland, but 'made in Yorkshire' Jonny's foray into music started at school as with so many. He picked up a Ukulele, but instead of playing the 'standards', quickly started writing his own songs. Raised on his parents eclectic musical tastes, he found a passion for modern indie music seeing bands such as The Lottery Winners & The K's at festivals (which often took the place of family holidays) A ukulele YouTube cover of 'Favourite Flavour' by The Lottery Winners, led to him being invited by LW lead singer Thom Rylance to perform the song with the band on stage at a sold out Gorilla Beer Hall in Mexborough. A later LW gig in Wigan saw him watch a young support act Jamie Wooding with his guitar & looper pedal, which in turn inspired him to pick up a guitar & teach himself to play. During a special soundcheck in front of distinguished guests at Manchester O2 Apollo, Thom spotted Jonny in the crowd and asked Jonny to replace him in the band for a rendition of 'Favourite Flavour' this time with Thom's guitar, so that Thom could see what it was like from the floor. Before the applause had even died down, Jonny was approached & invited to open Manchester's After All Festival in April '24. An offer he accepted with much enthusiasm. This was the beginning of his solo musical adventure. A season ticket holder at Sheffield United FC (which led to his moniker), Jonny felt impelled to rewrite the lyrics to David Bowie's 'Starman' in tribute to George Baldock after his tragic passing in October. The song received an incredible reception on social media and he performed it in the SUFC fanzone on 3 occasions and in front of 28,000 fans at half-time. After once again being invited onstage by The Lottery Winners during their ‘Burning House Party’ gigs at The Manchester O2 Academy in late December 2024, He performed ‘21’ and was gifted Thom’s guitar onstage to help him continue with his songwriting. This in turn has lead to support slots with The Clause and The Lottery Winners in early 2025 About The Song: The melody of this song was written in December of 2024, just before Jonny went on to play a set for a Mancunia TV Christmas special, sat alone with his dad in the green room. “I felt it had a really uplifting vibe to it with a joyful charisma. Not long after, I began to write the lyrics, based on a night in which me and my friend sat in the same quarry that is pictured in the artwork for this single, with some cans of cider and a blurred head at the time. We talked about our aspirations for the future and the worries of our reputation and pride if we didn’t succeed in ‘making something of ourselves’. This conversation lead to much self criticism, hence the title ‘Get Your Act Together’. It’s a song based around being a young lad and naively assuming that success is built off a quick rise in popularity, whether that be as a performer, or in school. In reality, no one has an idea of what’s to come and success is built through time. This is a very long way of saying the song was written about a drunken conversation I had with a friend. I hope everyone enjoys listening to what I got out of it as much as I did making it.” The song was recorded with, and produced by Sunderland’s Tom A Smith. A collaboration that was as enlightening and it was enjoyable. Immediately after it was completed, both artists went on to perform for the Lottery Winners ultimately successful ‘KOKO’ album campaign held at Leigh Spinner’s Mill. It has been performed acoustically in Jonny’s recent live sets, including support slots for The Lottery Winners and The Clause.
