Jonny has now turned 18 years old and has had quite a whirlwind introduction into the world of grassroots live music Jonny's foray into music started at school as with so many. He picked up a Ukulele, but instead of playing the 'standards', quickly started writing his own songs. Raised on his parents eclectic musical tastes, he found a passion for modern indie music seeing bands such as The Lottery Winners, The Reytons, The Clause, The Lilacs & The K's at festivals (which often took the place of family holidays) A ukulele YouTube cover of 'Favourite Flavour' by The Lottery Winners at the age of 15, led to him being invited by LW lead singer Thom Rylance to perform the song on his uke with the band on stage at a sold out Gorilla Beer Hall in Mexborough. A later gig saw him watch a young support act Jamie Wooding with his guitar & looper pedal, which in turn inspired him to pick up a guitar & teach himself to play. During a special Lottery Winners soundcheck in front of distinguished guests at Manchester O2 Apollo in January 2024, Thom Rylance recognised Jonny in the crowd and asked Jonny to replace him in the band for a rendition of 'Favourite Flavour' this time with Thom's guitar, so that Thom could see what it was like from the floor. Before the applause had even died down, Jonny was approached & invited to open Manchester's After All Festival in April '24. An offer he accepted with much enthusiasm. This was the beginning of his solo musical adventure. Jonny is also appearing again at this year’s After All Festival at Gullivers NQ / Castle Hotel on 10th May, this time much further up the bill! After once again being invited onstage by The Lottery Winners during their ‘Burning House Party’ gigs at The Manchester O2 Academy in late December 2024, He performed ‘21’ and was gifted Thom’s guitar onstage to help him continue with his songwriting. This in turn has lead to support slots with The Clause in Barnsley and The Lottery Winners at the O2 Academy Leeds, amongst many others in early 2025 and betyond. He also performed at the recent ‘Pop Up Shop’ events for The Lottery Winners, promoting their new Album ‘KOKO’ which was ultimately successful, resulting in a second number one album for the band. Jonny is hoping to attend University in Manchester later this year after completion of his A Levels.
