Barranquismo en découverte sur LRdR Easy
November. Since forming in 2021, Barranquismo has gradually built into the music scene bringing the essence of their groovy tunes as they went. Starting as a 2 piece project, Sam Trodden (Singer, Bassist) and Joe Barran (Guitar, Backing Vocals) met through Beith’s Community Trust’s Music Project, quickly creating a bond and becoming life long friends. They spent all summer writing and recording demos at home using only 4 SM58's to record everything, Sam explains: “The DIY nature of recording demos in Joe’s family home set the mood for the band. Laid back, relaxed and ultimately groovy". Come 2023, Tommy Quismo (guitar) and Nate Campbell (drums) joined in early January, making what is the current 4-piece. All members brought their own influences, from the funky bass of Funkadelica, to the classic feel of The Beatles and Dire Straits, and the driving movement of Stevie Wonder. The 4-piece brings their influences into the modern day, giving a fresh coat of paint to the sound. Discover Music Scotland commented: “this band take their groovy tones and make a show that’s so fun and gives you the feeling of being on holiday”. However, you can also find a very smooth and soulful side of the band with songs like ‘Tortured’ (Track 3 on the EP), giving the feeling of “calming waves coming in at the end of the night” - Discovery Music. The band started establishing themselves playing King Tut’s winter celebration as well as it’s sister summer version, selling out their first headliner show at the SWG3 Poetry Club, supporting ex Kaiser Chiefs drummer and songwriter, Nick Hodgson’s, new band ‘Everyone Says Hi’, at McChullis on the final day of their UK tour, and playing the main stage at the iRock Festival in Germany. The first single from their EP, ‘Easy’, perfectly encapsulates the bands groovy and funky energy which they bring both on recording and into their live shows. Radiating a catchy bassline along with the pure groovy guitar strumming and driving drums, the song never fails to get stuck in your head and get your foot tapping along. The single undeniably epitomises the bands talent and unique take on current music trends as well as the energetic craftsmanship of their music. Talking about the single, Sam says: “What started as a mid rehearsal jam, quickly grew into a song that captures the fresh and funky sound of Barranquismo. ‘Easy’ tackles the inner battles that many people have inside their own heads. The song summarises the feeling of having an angel and a devil on your shoulder and the constant conflict people feel between these two opposing thoughts we can feel are stuck inside our heads. Although the subject matter is serious, the optimism and energy of the song makes you feel uplifted as opposed to hopeless.“ Following their debut single ‘Gods Among Us’, Barranquismo plan on showing people their full potential with their Debut EP, along side their EP release show which will be at Nice n’ Sleezys on the 29 of November. The electrifying funk tunes, along with the beautifully crafted ballads of the EP showcase the bands journey since their first release and paves the way for their next set of releases as they continue to develop their sound. th ‘Work Smoothly, Lifetime Peace’ is not a release to be missed, and demonstrates the start of the bands talent and huge potential for success.
