Where their previous release Underground Girl offered a "frustrated, emotive reflection", Bad Dreams is an atmospheric, driving anthem that explores the "willful art of forgetting." Blending dream-pop and indie/alternative with a massive finish, the track navigates the transition from a shared reality to a solitary haze, where a person is slowly demoted from a partner to a memory. "It’s about the desperate need to reclaim your own headspace," explains vocalist Annabelle. "Turning a living trauma into a manageable, distant shadow. It’s the track that finally pushes our protagonist to trigger the change." Dedicated to their "music as an experience" ethos , Polyvinyl are augmenting the release with a self-produced short film consisting of five interwoven music videos. Set to premiere this summer, the f ilm’s narrative mirrors the track's duality, blurring the lines between the protagonist's internal headspace and a stark, "depressed" reality. The track sees the band reunite with a premier engineering team to ensure a cinematic, radio-ready sound: ● Production: Lisa Murphy (Lizzie Esau, Melanie Baker) ● Mixing: Paul Gregory (Mercury Prize Nominee, Lanterns on the Lake) ● Mastering: Katie Tavini (We Are Scientists, Bloc Party)
